MET Group announces entry into the Portuguese energy market through its Spanish subsidiary MET Energía España

February 6, 2025
Swiss-based MET Group, an integrated European energy company with activities and assets in the natural gas and electricity markets, has announced the start of its operations in Portugal from the first quarter of 2025.

The company, which will enter the Portuguese market through its Spanish subsidiary led by CEO Ángel Crespo, will start operating in Portugal by bringing to its customers the innovative energy products that the company is already successfully supplying in many other European markets.

In this way, MET Group's activities will initially focus on the Iberian wholesale gas and electricity, participating in market platforms and capacity markets. Additionally, it will strengthen its value proposition through PPA contracts, hedging solutions for solar producers, and the supply of gas and LNG to Portuguese customers.

With the beginning of its operations in Portugal, MET Group will contribute locally to energy transition and efficiency, as well as to liquidity and price transparency – in an energy market that is in continuous transformation and requires increasingly dynamic and innovative activities to match market activity with the needs of customers and stakeholders.

Ángel Crespo, CEO of MET Energía España, pointed out: “Entering the Portuguese market is an important milestone in MET Group's growth, and a logical step to continue developing the Iberian market as a whole after having strengthened our presence in Spain. The Portuguese market, like the Spanish one, offers many opportunities in the energy sector and the start of operations in Portugal is a coherent and ambitious move in the company's strategy.”
