“I definitely see MET Group expanding further and becoming a fully-fledged global integrated energy company operating all over the world, with a strong trading, sales and energy asset footprint in Europe,” says Giuseppe Rebuzzini, CEO of MET Energia Italia, who recently received the Top Performance of the Year Award for his outstanding performance in 2024.
What was your first thought when you heard your name announced?
The award came truly unexpected. I knew that MET Italia was doing well, but I also knew that other organizations within MET Group were doing very well too, and that the competition for the Top Performance of the Year Award was so strong that chances would be limited. So, the first thought was really “Wow, this is surprising!!!” The second thought was that it had to be shared with the team working with me every single day in order to achieve this result.
What do you think is your greatest professional achievement?
I think that setting up MET Energia Italia based on the mandate Group CEO Benjamin Lakatos gave me back in 2017 – to build MET Group's sales arm in the second European gas market – and developing it to the point where we are today, with 55,000 customers, 8.5 TWh natural gas and 2.2 TWh power sales, is for sure my greatest professional achievement ever. And especially since this is not a personal achievement, but the achievement of the greatest team of people I have had the chance to work with in my entire career. The award goes to the hard work, commitment and dedication of all 43 employees of MET Italia, both those who began with me several years ago, and those who joined more recently and are providing a superb contribution in the many additional tasks that a mature organization has to face.
Where do you see MET Group – and yourself – in five years?
I definitely see MET Group expanding further and becoming a fully-fledged global integrated energy company operating all over the world, with a strong trading, sales and energy asset footprint in Europe, and diversified interests in other geographies – Asia in particular, but not exclusively. The dedication and focus on results that I see in this company is unmatched and, as long as it remains (and I have no doubt it will), MET Group will keep developing as a success story.
As for me, I believe that this award symbolizes the “end of the beginning” for MET Italia. I told the team that Chapter 1 is now over, while Chapter 2 of our journey is only beginning. In five years time, the only place I see myself is MET Italia, working with the team to bring it to the next level and contributing as much as possible to MET Group's overall success.
How do you ‘recharge your batteries’ outside of working hours?
First of all, I think that doing the job I like is per se recharging - I couldn’t work that much if I did not truly love what I am doing. But outside of working hours, having dinner at home with my wife and 3 kids is what provides me with the daily recharge I need to keep working hard, day after day, week after week. I wish everybody felt the joy and fun I feel every single evening when I am with my family, with the laughs and the many stories that we share. Sport is the other thing that makes me feel really good - running and playing tennis are the activities I practice the most, together with skiing in the winter, and occasionally playing football with (usually much younger!) colleagues.
