MET Group is present in natural gas trading, as well as in the European wholesale and retail markets. MET International is focused on international, mainly cross-border, natural gas trading and wholesale, and is active in all major trading hubs. MET Croatia, MET Hungary, MET Italy, MET Romania, MET Slovakia and MET Spain serve natural gas customers within those countries, with a focus on meeting the supply needs of industrial and commercial customers, while MET GEM represents the Group in South Eastern Europe in cooperation with MET Serbia, MET Turkey and MET Ukraine.
MET Group is present in power trading, wholesale and retail on the European market. MET International is focused on international power trading and wholesale, and is active on multiple trading points. MET Hungary, MET Romania and MET Slovakia serve electricity customers within those countries, with a focus on meeting the supply needs of industrial and commercial customers, while MET GEM represents the Group in South Eastern Europe.
The construction of the 17.6 megawatt Dunai Solar Park, one of the biggest solar power plants in Hungary (2018), is the first concrete step of MET Group's renewable energy strategy. MET has ambitious plans in renewable energy production in the Central and Eastern European region. Renewable energy production is not only a business opportunity but also an energy policy goal which fits perfectly into the Group's strategy.
LNG (liquefied natural gas)
MET International (METI), trading and risk management entity of MET Group, inaugurated its LNG desk in March 2016 and completed its first LNG import transaction just 4 months later, with a discharge in Italy. Since then, the LNG desk has grown from strength to strength, actively delivering cargoes to counterparts in both the Atlantic and Pacific basin. In 2018, the LNG desk concluded an aggregate transactional volume of more than 2.1 bcm equivalent of natural gas.
LPG (liquefied petroleum gas)
MET Group has traded with LPG in the Central and Eastern European region for years. Autogas, the common name for LPG, is the third most popular automotive fuel in the world.
MET Group operates the Dunamenti Power Plant in Százhalombatta, the largest natural gas-fired power plant in Hungary. Dunamenti's total generation capacity is 794 megawatts, consisting of two independent power production units. Featuring a modern Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) design, Dunamenti is highly efficient, producing both electricity and heat for local consumption. As a result of its ownership of the Dunamenti Power Plant, MET Group is active in the ancillary services market for electricity balancing on the Hungarian power network.
