A Welsh think tank, the Institute of Welsh Affairs (IWA) has released a new report, emphasizing that renewable energy could play a central role in the country’s economic future. The document sets out a 10-point plan, detailing the actions Wales can take to convert to renewable energy.
Among the suggestions of the report, called A plan for Wales’ renewable energy future: Essential actions to re-energise Wales by 2035, there are energy efficiency upgrades for 870,000 homes. It also proposes the establishment of 2.6 GW of solar capacity, 2.5 GW of onshore wind capacity, 1.7 GW of offshore wind capacity, and 4 GW of marine and floating wind turbine capacity.
The think tank wrote that Wales could switch to 100% renewable energy by 2035. Listing the benefits, the report emphasized that switching to renewable energy could create more than 20,000 jobs per year, and would add a £7.4 billion economic boost to the economy.
